Letter Published in The National UAE on 13 DEc 17Your article Power needs leave India stuck between a rock and a hot place (December 11) was thought-provoking. India needs to invest huge amounts of money in solar power for it to succeed and should also continue monitoring and cracking down on crop-burning practices in northern states. Whether Indian prime minister Narendra Modi achieve his plans before 2022 remains to be seen. Ultimately, power is essential, after all.K Ragavan, India

Rahul Gandhi needs to prove his worth as a politicianYour article Rahul Gandhi nomination highlights India’s dynasty politics (December 7) rings true with me. The nomination of 45-year-old Gandhi was welcomed by the Indian National Congress party despite the fact that there are many capable senior leaders who can do the job better. What is the criteria for his nomination? That he is the son of its leader? It has become abundantly clear that the Congress party is dominated by the Nehru dynasty. This might be something the party can stomach, not the people, at least not until he demonstrates his worth as a politician.K Ragavan, India

Letter Published in The National UAE on 11Dec 17That was a heinous attack on peacekeepers in DR Congo

I refer to your news story Worst attack on UN in recent history kills 15 peace keepers in DR Congo (December 10). This spate of incidents must be condemned in the strongest possible terms. Peace keepers and aid workers are doing important work, attacking them is completely unacceptable.

Letter Published in The National UAE on 11Dec 17 On Jerusalem and the US president’s curious decision    Decades of hope have been shattered by the decision. Palestinians are upset and certainly Israel will no doubt react in violent terms. This dramatic development will have a deep impact on the Middle East.

Young minds  The 12-year-old Mohammad Al Jounde, a Syrian refugee boy who won the Children’s Peace Price wanted to build a school for refugees in Lebanon, is laudable (“Syrian boy wins Children’s Peace Prize for building refugee school in Lebanon”, Gulf News, December 5). His noble gesture at this young age for the cause of education is remarkable. Syrian refugee children will benefit. Congratulations to Mohammad Al Jounde.

Letter Published in The National UAE on 10 Dec 17,The FNC has made a smart move over special needs kids

I write in reference to your editorial Improving aid for children with special needs is vital(December 7). Your leader was an interesting read. The Federal National Council’s recommendation of offering financial aid to special needs children is a good move. This country is encouraging people wherever talent is available.
