Letter Published in The National UAE on 21 June 18, Turkish strongman Erdogan is losing his grip in elections      In reference to your article Simmering resentment in southeastern Turkey threatens Erdogan’s presidential plans(June 19), Mat Nashed’s thoughtful piece on the ongoing political crisis in Turkey was an excellent read. It appears Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan is losing his grip on the recent military operations against the Kurds. Fresh presidential elections – brought forward unexpectedly by Mr Erdogan two months ago – will be held on June 24 and they will determine Turkey’s short and long-term future.Whether Mr Erdogan will return to office or not is the key question. Turkish Kurds are clearly hoping for a change in government but it remains to be seen if their aspirations are realised.K Ragavan, Denver

Letter Published in The National UAE on 20 June 18 If US President takes care of his base he’ll serve two terms    I write in reference to Gavin Esler’s op-ed Voters will judge Trump on the economy, not on his moral or constitutional values (June 19): Mr Esler’s point that any national leader who is perceived to be taking care of his or her core voters may be immune to accusations surrounding his or her moral infringements is a very valid one. As such, it is very possible that US President Donald Trump’s immoral words and deeds will not affect his ability to return to office in 2020. A successful economy is very important and should make people happy and if they are, particularly the middle class, I see no reason why the leader in question should not be given a second chance.K Ragavan, Denver

Letter Published in The National UAE on 19June 18      Special envoy Angelina Jolie sets an example for us all        In reference to your story Angelina Jolie pleads for more aid after visit to refugee camp in Iraq (June 18), Mina Aldroubi’s article on the appeal of the Hollywood actress, who is also a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, was a good read. UN special envoy Angelina Jolie is an inspiration to us all. Her appeal to the international community for support for refugees living in dire conditions, particularly widows in Iraq, is laudable.Celebrities like Jolie have a duty to come forward and use their fame to fight for human rights. Ultimately we all have a duty of care towards refugees. It is our global responsibility to take care of them.K Ragavan, Denver

Letter Published in The National UAE on  18, June 18  Is permanent peace with in reach in Afghanistan?

In reference to your article Afghanistan soldiers and Taliban fighters celebrate Eid ceasefire (June 16): the successful three-day truce that saw Afghan soldiers and Taliban fighters celebrating Eid with one another is a very encouraging sign. This could pave the way for a permanent peace agreement, which would greatly benefit not just the Afghan people but also those across the region. But of course, whether this will happen after years of armed struggle remains unclear. I’m afraid only time will tell us if this is the case.

Mr,CM,Where have promises gone?
BM’s election coverage has been brilliant, says K.Ragavan.The  constituency review of BTM Lay out  reveals the negative of the in cumbent who failed  to deliver  basic amenities like potable water ,roads
with out potholes, garbage segregation have been in a mess.Similar story is being played out elsewhere in the city as well.Remember Chief minister Siddaramaiah promised to clear the garbage and make the city clean with in 100 days of him assuming power

Letter Published in The National UAE on 17June 18  Ikea’s Indian expansion will no doubt be a success

I write with reference to your story Ikea set to adapt as it opens first India store (June 15): the renowned furniture brand Ikea is going to set up its first store in the Indian southern city of Hyderabad. This is a great development for Indian customers. To attract people, Ikea’s strategy of having Indian delicacies such as samosas on offer is a good one to attract both consumers and customers. Ikea is already well-established in many countries and this is just the beginning of its venture in India, which will no doubt expand in due course.
