K Ragavan writes ‘HDK appeals for calm’ was a moving read. Chief Minister HDK’s appeal to coalition parties to maintain calm since the new UPA Government will be formed in five days, makes me applaud the confidence of HDK that UPA will form the new government. On the other hand, he has forgotten that people have already decided in the six phases. Only on May 23, will the the entire nation know who forms the next government. Speculation may not yield

Letter Published in The National UAE on 20May 19Politicians must use their public platforms wisely

I write in reference to your recent article Outrage over BJP candidate’s praise over Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin (May 17). It was a very upsetting piece to read.

The comment made by the controversial BJP candidate Pragya Singh Thakur about Nathuram Godse, the killer of the father of modern India, Mahatma Gandhi, is utterly contemptible and to be condemned. For a politician to refer to a cold-blooded killer as a patriot is disgraceful.

Unsurprisingly, her remarks provided a sensational opportunity for opposition parties to criticise the current government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also disavowed her comment.

Political leaders should be very careful about what they choose to say from their very public platforms.

Even though Ms Thakur has since apologised, that does not seem to be enough to make up for this reprehensible statement.

Letter Published in KhaleejTimes UAE on 19May 19 It’s going to be a tough fight in  in Bihar (KT, May 17).I agree Patna will be the headline act in Bihar (KT, May 17). The fight is primarily between two contestants – one is a former member of parliament from Bihar, Ravi Shankar Prasad, and the other is Shatrughan Sinha, who was a BJP member and is now with the Congress. Both have strong credentials and this election is going to be a tough competition for both. Whether Sinha with the new label of Congress retains his position is something we will have to wait and see.- K. Ragavan, Bengaluru, India

Letter Published in The National UAE on 19 May 19 Teachers deserve our full respect and support  I write to you in reference to your editorial Our children’s future depends on happy teachers(May 16). This piece does a good job at explaining the importance of teachers’ contribution to society, especially in regards to our children’s future. It is truly alarming that so many talented educators are tempted to leave the profession. This can only have a detrimental impact on the younger generation. The UAE already has plans to give teachers better pay so as to retrain talent. I do hope that this will no longer be an issue in the near future, and that teachers will be encouraged to stay in their profession.K Ragavan, Bengaluru

Letter Published in BM on 17May 19.Nutritious diet a must for athletes

K Ragavan writes Sports Department’s tender loving care for food contractors was good and meaningful story. Athletes need a nutritious diet and the department should speed up to raise allocation for students and need not go for bidding as quality will be compromised and other malpractices will occur.

Letter Published in The National UAE on 15May 19 India’s politicians indulge in a dangerous war of words

I write to you in reference to Amrit Dhillon’s article How vitriol at the Indian polls shows a coarsening of political discourse (May 13). This meaningful and thought-provoking article about the ongoing Indian elections has shed light on the worrying verbal attacks that politicians have indulged in.

During these elections, the contenders have failed to rely on their ideas to sway public opinion, so instead they competed to see who could come up with the most inflammatory comment. This war of words should be stopped as it benefits no one. Politicians and their supporters, should learn to

respect each other, despite their differences.

Letter Published in BM on 14May 19. Find viable solution for KIA expansion

K Ragavan writes with reference to the story ‘Grime and punishment’ that the initiative taken by BM for the villagers near KIA is appreciated. Any expansion is welcome, but at the same time that should not disturb the people living near by. KIA expansion has done just that, villagers are disturbed by the onslaught of dust and it is creating health related problems. Hope the authorities find a viable solution to ensure villagers are not inconvinced
